Drawing from the brotherhood’s mission to foster spiritual growth and devotion—rooted in their annual Lenten retreats, public processions, and charitable works—this retreat invites you to embrace a life of repentance and renewal. Set against the serene backdrop of Big Bear Lake, it combines the rich traditions of the Catholic faith with outdoor beauty, offering a unique space for men to connect with God and each other.

Meet Your Leaders

  • Fr. Alcuin Friesen O.Praem: Fr. Alcuin Friesen is a Canon Regular of the Order of Prémontré (Norbertine) serving as a Parochial Vicar at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Costa Mesa, CA, under the auspices of St. Michael’s Abbey. With a deep commitment to the 900-year-old Norbertine tradition, he actively participates in the parish’s vibrant ministry, which serves English, Spanish, and Vietnamese communities through Masses, confessions, youth and adult religious education, visits to the sick, prayer groups, and social events. Fr. Alcuin plays a key role in fostering the parish’s goal of sanctification for both clergy and parishioners, contributing to liturgical prayer, teaching, and pastoral care. His involvement extends to specific ministries such as Lectors and Youth and Family Evangelization, reflecting his dedication to spiritual growth and community outreach. His feast day is celebrated on May 19th.

  • Fr. Peter Adrian Miller O.Praem: Fr. Peter Adrian Miller is a devoted Canon Regular of the Order of Prémontré (Norbertine) at St. Michael’s Abbey in Southern California, hailing from Waterloo, Ontario. As part of a community of over 60 priests and 40 seminarians, he lives a life of liturgical prayer and service, upholding the Rule of St. Augustine. His ministry includes celebrating the sacraments, teaching the faith, and providing pastoral support to various communities, schools, and religious groups. Fr. Peter contributes to the abbey’s 60+ year mission of forming young men for the priesthood and offering spiritual guidance through writing, digital outreach, and community engagement, serving as a beacon of peace and faith. His feast day is observed on October 13th.
